Editorial Review

Part of the SKYCITY Adelaide casino complex, North restaurant is impressive. The fit-out drips with the excessive of money spent, yet the space retains an elegance and charm in a way that casinos generally do not. The arched ceiling is high, to say the least, and the wall behind the bar is filled to the top with a huge selection of wines - imported, aged and everyday classics. Retractable glass panels line one wall and open in summer to blur the line between inside and outside dining, allowing a hint of the pleasant atmosphere of Station Road to intrude.

Through a small peephole you can glimpse the chefs at work behind the scenes creating dishes from the elegant and somewhat innovative mod Oz menu. The standard entree choices are done well and presented with flair. Try the chef's selection of pate and dips served with an assortment of grilled and crisp breads to start. For mains try the delightfully more-ish orecchiette tossed with Morton Bay bugs, blue swimmer crab, baby peas and dill in a creamy Champagne sauce. Desserts look too good to eat - but don't worry, they're not. Try the rich dark chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet, berry coulis and soft whipped cream. This is casino dining at its best.

Chilli: The service was extremely slow. Our frustration was increased when the run of the mill bottle of wine that we had ordered was out of stock. Another wait to place our food orders. After a 40 minute wait the food arrived and my grandmother???s meal (the birthday girl) was incorrect. By this time we were starving so my grandmother accepted the meal. The beer battered fish was of poor quality. The rest of the meals were only ok. We will not be returning. (07 November 2007)
