Editorial Review

The Adelaide Convention Centre deserves to be appreciated by more South Australians; after all it was their taxes that paid for the 2001 renovations. Although the fit-out is pleasant, the large space is so modern it can be unclear where the restaurant starts and the Convention Centre ends. Luckily Regattas is saved by its location on the banks of the River Torrens (within a water spray of the fountain) and the colourful characters that come for the food rather than the ambience.
Regattas welcomes a curious cross-section: from ladies who lunch (real ladies with hats, gloves and mother-of-pearl buttons) to fine-diners yearning to plunge a fork into the modern Australian menu. Regattas is also popular for conference delegates who like to wind down with a bottle of local wine and a complimentary martini glass of mixed nuts. The outside tables are a winner on nice days, and as the restaurant is open early to late everyday it's not hard finding a convenient time to visit.

The seasonal menu offers stylish yet well-priced meals such as the beautifully presented baby beetroot risotto served with cider candy apples and rocket salad.

The meals are delicious but not fussy. For a laid-back Australian treat try the flathead fillets in Cooper's beer batter served with fries, tartare sauce and tossed salad.

Tatts: This was my first lunch time visit. As usual the service was friendly and attentive even though there were several large groups there. The lunch main course serves were small for the prices paid and I was glad that I had opted for the Regattas sandwich which was a good size for the price. (01 September 2007)
