Editorial Review

The Greedy Goose offers more than anticipated; an innovative menu, engaging staff and a generous wine list (featuring over 120 wines). The restaurant is spacious and elegant, with bright cushions offering splashes of colour and smart artwork. This modern European restaurant attracts an interesting crowd, consisting mainly of interstate visitors, country visitors and a cross section of the local community. Intriguingly, the fame from the reality show lingers on and since My Restaurant Rules has begun to screen internationally, the Greedy Goose is attracting visitors from as far out as Sweden.

The menu is kept short, perhaps to accommodate for the fact that everything is made on the premises, from the pasta to the green chilli sauce (served with creme fraiche as an accompaniment to the oyster entree). Chef John Hall has shaped his menu around his experiences in England, France and Italy. His signature dish is vincisgrassi macerates: a small portion of prosciutto lasagne drizzled with white truffle oil. It is a dish designed to polarise diners - quite rich, heavy with farmyard aromas, and definitely a dish you will either adore or abhor. The Greedy Goose attracts a new demographic to fine dining, and vincisgrassi macerates will give them something to debate.

Wazza: I was hesitant about this (based on the TV hype), but it turned out to be a great spot. Loved the food. Two thumbs up. (07 February 2008)
